The Fenix BC28R is a complete night-riding set: a powerful 2500-lumen front light and a bright red tail light that work together as one system. The two lights link wirelessly, so you can change the tail light's mode from the handlebar without stopping, reaching back or taking your eyes off the road.

The front light's Cree XHP50D LED reaches 180 metres, enough to see potholes, speed breakers, stray animals and road edges well ahead on unlit highways, ghat roads and trails. The tail light is visible from 100 metres behind, so traffic sees you early.

Anti-glare beam that won't blind oncoming traffic

Most bright bike lights dazzle drivers, riders and pedestrians coming the other way. The BC28R uses an anti-glare cut-off beam, like a car's low beam: the light is placed on the road ahead, with a sharp upper edge that keeps it out of other people's eyes. You see more, and everyone around you stays safer.

Control both lights from the handlebar

Once paired, a dedicated button on the front light cycles the tail light's modes, and an indicator on the front light shows the tail light's current status in real time: steady, slow flash or fast flash. You always know your tail light is working without looking back. Pairing is a one-time setup, and the lights remember each other after that.

Use Turbo on dark, fast descents and unlit highways, High and Medium for regular night rides, and Low for 52 hours of city riding where there's some street lighting. Flash mode makes you highly visible in daytime traffic. A short tail-light standby mode keeps it ready during breaks, and it switches off automatically if left for an hour.

Replaceable battery: no range anxiety

The front light runs on a Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 (5000mAh 21700) battery that you can swap out on long rides. Carry a spare and you're never stranded in the dark. Both lights charge by USB Type-C: about 3.5 hours for the front light and 1.5 hours for the tail light (built-in 400mAh battery). Both can be used while charging.

The front light shows its battery level for 3 seconds every time you switch it on, and warns you with a fast red blink when it's running low. It won't switch itself off suddenly, so you're never left in the dark mid-ride.

• IP66 rated: protected against dust and heavy rain, so monsoon rides are no problem. (Not designed for submersion.)
• Full-metal housing with 1.5-metre impact resistance handles rough roads, potholes and the occasional fall.
• Tool-free mounting: the handlebar mount and seatpost mount fit most bikes in minutes, with a spare shim for thinner bars.
• Intelligent overheat protection steps output down at 50°C and restores it once the light cools.
• Memory function on both lights recalls your last-used mode (except Turbo and Flash).
