What's new in the Wave Alpha
The strongest Wave blade yet
The blade is CPM MagnaCut® steel, hardened to 60–63 HRC. It holds an edge far longer than the 420HC steel on the classic Wave, and resists rust in humid monsoons and coastal air.
The reverse-tanto shape gives a strong, precise tip for detail work. A new brass thumb stud lets you open it smoothly with one hand.
Full-size scissors, built in
Fans asked for years, and here they are: spring-action scissors with the largest cutting surface currently on any Leatherman plier tool.
They open from the outside without unfolding the tool, and they handle thick packaging, cord and fabric that small multi-tool scissors struggle with.
A grip that stays put
The handles are G10, a tough fibreglass composite, machined with a pattern inspired by topographic map lines. It grips well with wet or sweaty hands and doesn't get as cold or hot as bare steel.
Reshaped handles and blade remove the pinch points and hot spots of older Waves, and flush fasteners with brass accents finish the look.
Still the Wave you know
The blade, saw, files and scissors all open from the outside, so everyday jobs never mean unfolding the pliers. Thumb holes make the saw and file easy to flick out.
Every tool locks open, and Leatherman backs it with a 25-year limited warranty.

The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear, misuse, and lost or stolen tools are not covered. Keep your LightMen invoice, as it's your proof of purchase.
Keep it working like new
Clean
Rinse in warm, soapy water, then dry it fully with the tools open. The G10 handles just need a wipe.
Oil
Put a drop of light oil on each pivot and work the tools open and shut a few times.
Sharpen
MagnaCut is hard steel. Diamond or ceramic sharpeners work best, and you won't need them often.
Use the right tool
Use the pliers to grip and the screwdrivers to pry, never the blade. That keeps the tip intact for years.
Questions customers ask us
Does it come with a sheath or pocket clip?
No, neither is in the box. The nylon, Heritage leather and Ainsworth leather sheaths all fit it in size Large. For the quick-release pocket clip, message us on WhatsApp.
How is it different from the classic Wave+?
The Wave Alpha has a MagnaCut® reverse-tanto blade instead of 420HC plain and serrated blades, much bigger scissors, machined G10 handles instead of bare steel, and an edge file. The Wave+ keeps a serrated blade and a ruler, and costs less.
Should I choose the Wave Alpha or the ARC?
The ARC opens every tool one-handed with magnets and adds a pry tool and impact surface, for 20 tools in total. The Wave Alpha has bigger scissors, grippier G10 handles and costs less. Many customers find the Alpha more comfortable in the hand.
Will Leatherman bits fit?
Yes. Both bit drivers take Leatherman bits, and two bits come in the box. Add the Leatherman Bit Kit for more drivers.
Can I take it on a flight?
Not in your cabin bag, because it has a blade. Pack it in checked luggage.
Can I get it engraved?
Yes, laser engraving is free on Leatherman tools. Tell us what you'd like and we'll suggest the best spot on your colour. See examples of our engraving.
How quickly will it reach me?
We ship from Hyderabad within one business day, and orders placed before 11 am ship the same day. Delivery time after that depends on your city.
